A guy with only one photo on his profile connected with me online. I'm always wary of profiles with limited pics, but he wasn't hidden or drop-dead gorgeous, so I felt it was unlikely he was a catfish or an absolute disaster. So we started chatting.
He opened with a nice comment about my eyes, which I complimented him on before asking why he only had one picture.
Apparently it's so I can wonder.
Well yes, I was wondering. I was wondering why on earth you would bother setting up a profile on a dating site with only one picture. I was also wondering if you were fake. I suspect neither of these were what he was implying. If only these guys realised they come across as a little weird rather than mysterious.
We moved on to the usual chitchat about where we lived and what we did for a living. Then he decided to offer his take on me.
I'm not entirely sure where he was going with this, but I don't think it landed the way he intended. Admittedly I wasn't having a great day, but even so - what was he thinking when he sent this?
"Leo woman... managing director... You're used to having the upper hand, aren't you?"
I'm sorry, what?
I'm a power-hungry Lion? I get off on bossing people around? I wonder how many women have said something like this to men in similar roles. Let me think... probably none.
I wasn't in the mood to be generous with my interpretation, so I replied:
"I'm used to having to rely on myself and hard work to achieve what I have in life."
I know exactly how men like him will read that. She can't take a joke. She sounds hard work. She's too much. Different words, same tired story.
Only one thing is certain. I am too much for him - and he's better off with someone who expects far less.
